It is considered that charity is a privilege of the rich. You don’t have to be well-to-do man in order to help people. You just have to be spiritually rich man.

Charity is a giving to people those things in which they extremely want for. Is it always money? Not at all. Big smile and endearing words are enough to brighten up one’s day. Especially if this man is lonely and is let alone with the trouble.

Responsive and not indifferent to men’s problems people with an active civil position are called volunteers. They are engaging in charity unselfishly, and they are convinced that their activity can make the world better. Volunteering is rooted in social culture of the western world: striking example is an organization of The International Red Cross. In Russia volunteering movement is just arising.

Everyone who is ready to be helpful in something can become a volunteer. In each particular case volunteering consists in different activity. But frequently volunteering is an association of people, united for purposeful help.

It is a fact that social protection is not strength of our public policy. And when there are no quarters to expect help from there is nothing else to do but to help each other. That is why the existence in our society of charity organizations which unite volunteers for efficient struggle with urgent social problems is extremely important.

Examples abound: many people know orphan shelter №4 in Pavlovsk for retarded children (further OS №4). But who has the real idea of what it’s like to be disabled since the childhood and at the same time not to know your parents? OS №4 is a closed institution; therefor handicapped children are isolated from the society and deprived of full life. Being in the scant charge of the state they spend every day in expectation of the miracle. But the miracle doesn’t happen…

However responsive and cheerful people who are ready to share their skills and warmth paid attention to handicapped children’s problem. In 2004 organization “Shag navstrechu” was set up in order to create supplementary conditions in the third building of the OS № 4 for development of the children with serious bodily impairment, speech abnormality and intellectual disorders.

For the effective supporting to handicapped children organization “Shag navstrechu” invites for collaborating specialists in different fields.

Experience shows that with the help of our energy, enthusiasm and professionalism we can achieve success even with the children who are considered hopeless and cannot be taught.

These children, deprived of parents’ love and care, are glad to communicate with people from “outer world”. This is an excellent opportunity for those who want to share warmth with those people who are really short of it.
